3-day Workshop on Adobe Photoshop

The students of the departments of Journalism and Mass Communication & Videography received a much needed dose of graphic designing. The 3-day workshop on Adobe Photoshop conducted by Mr. Raviraj from Manipal Institute of Communication, gave the students an enriching experience of graphic designing.

Mr. Raviraj come with ample industry and academic experience. He has created animation for a demo film on RFID for Manipal Press Limited. He has published an article ‘The reasons for the growth of animation’ in Global media journal, an international communication journal (2007). He has also assisted in sound designing for 5 educational films for a UGC Project carried out by Ms. Vani, Dept. of Journalism, NMKRV College, Bangalore in 2007.

With a keen eye for details, Mr. Raviraj stressed on the importance of paying attention to every design requirement depending on which medium it is intended for. He classes included theoretical knowledge about designing as well as hands on designing exercises. Apart from introducing the basic tools of Adobe Photoshop, Mr. Raviraj also demonstrated how to create 3D effects and color corrections.

Inaugural of the Academic Year at St. Xavier’s

St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, recently inaugurated its new academic year 2014-15 with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Archbishop, Filipe Neri Ferrao, on the theme “ Rooted in Faith and Enlightened by Knowledge, We Are Called to Renew Society”. He exhorted the assembly to be instruments of service and reconciliation in order to create a peaceful society. Further, he stated the need to form leaders who will keep the interests of the community uppermost.

At the Cultural Session, Principal Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sa extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, staff and students, particularly the freshers. In his speech, he stated that true education is directed towards the formation of the human person, and the good of the society. He highlighted the grave responsibility of the educators to form men and women of character and integrity who will make a difference in the society which is being plagued by violence and other evils.

The meritorious students were felicitated at the hands of the Archbishop, Filipe Neri Ferrao who congratulated them and the institution on securing excellent results with high pass percentage, namely, 95.60% in Arts, 100 % in Science, 98.31 % in Commerce, 94% in BCA, 90% in MA, 93% in M.Com and 100 %in M.Sc.

Dr. Blanche Mascarenhas delivered a lectio brevis on “Restructuring of the Mining Industry in Goa: Need of the Hour.” The students later performed various cultural items to mark the occasion.

The Archbishop released the annual college magazine, The Halcyon 2013-14 in the presence of Shri. Dheeraj Khetrapal, DYSP, CBI, Goa. The programme was ably compered by Anna Marie Remedios and Gaurav Phadte.
