On 3rd October, the S.Y.B.A. students of Mass Communication and Journalism, St. Xavier’s College had the privilege of visiting Sunaparanta, Goa Centre for the Arts in Altinho, Panjim. This visit was organised as a part of their Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) paper ‘Art Appreciation’. During their time at the gallery, the students were exposed to a delightful mix of new and thought-provoking experiences and introduced to how nature and art is intertwined. The gallery exhibited the works of a South Korean artist, Kyungwoo Chun called ‘Songs without lyrics’.
The works were divided into various segments like photographic, video performances and interactive. The artist is known for creating unfamiliar situations that can provoke modes of interdependence, he provides a space for people to enter and deliberate on the meaning of the most ordinary actions. Much of the artist’s work is based on situations and encounters that revolve around concepts of empathy, care and compassion.
The students had to interpret the artwork as they perceived it. The exhibition had layers to it and the rhythmic circulation of time was explained to the students at the end of the visit. This visit provided the students with an in-depth understanding of how different perspectives and experiences of an artist play a role significant role in the process art making.
