On February 22nd the S.Y.B.A. students of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department
visited a fashion studio in Altinho, Panjim as a part of their Skill Enhancement Course. The studio
belongs to Alexandra Faye; a young fashion designer from Goa who is known for her sustainable
Indo-Western style of clothing. The students were given a run through of the entire process of
garment creation, from conceptualisation to the final product. Alexandra Faye personally guided the
students through each step, explaining her design philosophy, material selection, and the techniques
she employs to ensure sustainability in her creations.
She pursued her B. Com and later completed her fashion education from JD Institute of Fashion
Technology, Mumbai. She briefed the students about her journey in the fashion world, and how she
eventually turned her passion into profession. When asked about her designing process, she
revealed that she has different departments for various tasks and prefers not to micromanage,
empowering her employees to make decisions while providing input when needed. Additionally, the
students also had a chance to see sketches of her work, as well as have a look at designs which were
displayed. As a fashion designer, sustainability is something that she never compromises on and
hence, she provided students an insight into her revamp project where they recycle waste and extra
fabric to produce a new garment. She also explained how each step, right from sourcing the material
to sewing the final product plays a significant role.
This activity opened up a new realm of understanding of the sustainable fashion and the fashion
business in Goa, for the students.
